Exploring change and connection

Year 1 students have been learning about the concepts change and connection. They investigated toys as well as life in the past, and how they are connected to it. Students have created time lines then compared and contrasted to see what has changed and what has stayed the same. They also used imagination to design and build ‘future toys’.

On Tuesday Year 1 students visited the Melbourne Museum to see and experience how life has changed. They saw many items that had been discussed, saw how people used to live, and compared their toys to old ones. This visit brought to life concepts and ideas that had been discussed and explored.

As Year 1 students are now applying this knowledge and changing their focus to understanding the connections to our First Nations peoples, we thought that it is a good time to visit the Ngargee Tree (Corroboree Tree) in St Kilda. This tree is 300-500 years old and believed to have been a significant place for ceremonies and gatherings for the local Boon Wurrung People. While at the museum, we also took the opportunity to visit Bunjilaka Gallery to learn how First Nations people around Australia have lived. This inspired us to ask questions to learn more.
