Senior Indoor Soccer Champions

Following a thrilling win and taking home the trophy in the EISM Southern Conference, The King David Senior Indoor Soccer team played off in one final match. They would play the Northern Conference winner, Alphington, for the Eastern Division trophy.

A pre-game strategy session focusing on starting the game well translated right onto the pitch, with the team getting off to a hot start and being rewarded with a penalty only 5 minutes in. Put away by Alex A, King David took a 1-0 lead. Not long after the super-sub from last week, Jack H, proved he was still firing as he came on and scored merely 10 seconds later, extending King David’s lead to 2-0. Alphington were starting to get frustrated with King David’s pressure and mistakes were starting to be made. Adam L would then pounce on a fast break opportunity, followed by another goal from Jack H and Ari J. The boys were playing as a team and the momentum was too much for Alphington. With 15 seconds to go until halftime, Jack H beat the keeper and completed a first-half hat-trick as well, giving King David a 6-0 lead at the break.

The boys huddled together and were reminded that this is a long game and Alphington would come and battle this second half. It was vital to stick to the task, continue the pressure and not let Alphington back in the match. Conceding the first goal of the half made it 6-1. The King David boys knew it was time to lock in and keep pushing for more goals. Adam L and Ari J would do exactly that responding by scoring back-to-back goals, extending King David’s lead to 8-1. To Alphington’s credit they battled hard, scoring 3 of the next 4 goals but another top corner penalty from Alex A gave the Kings a 9-4 lead with 5 minutes to go. Finishing the game as strong as they started it, Adam L (who was voted best on ground) and Jack H would once again find the back of the net. As the final whistle blew, King David were Division Champions, winning 11-4 and taking home a second senior soccer trophy in 2022. A truly remarkable effort.
