ReGen Week at King David
This week has been filled with activities for ReGen Week, push-starting King David’s efforts to reduce our impact on the climate as a community. On Wednesday we had our Ride to School day, with students and staff biking, walking, catching public transport or even scooting to school. We were rewarded for our efforts with a delicious breakfast in the sunshine.
Yesterday Year 9 and 10 students heard Tishiko King speak about her efforts to stop climate change on country. Tishiko King is a proud Kulkalaig woman from the Island of Masig, Kulkalgal Nation of Zenadth Kes, and contributes to the Groundswell Giving team as their new Philanthropy and Engagement Officer to launch their very first First Nations grant round called Caring for Country funded by the Eisen Family Private Fund.
Then at lunch time students found treasures at our sustainable market, made up of previously-loved goods donated by students and staff. Proceeds of this went to Ondata, a foundation in Victoria that builds sanctuaries to help animals. They focus on properties in areas with favourable biodiversity values. After the 2019/2020 bush fires, Odonata helped regenerate species who were affected.
Students also had a picnic lunch, turned our rubbish bins into works of art, and made their own pot plants to take home and nurture.
Thank you to all involved in organising a fantastic week of action and learning.
