Creative genius – B’nai B’rith Jewish Youth Art Competition
There was a large representation of all Jewish day schools and some state schools in this year’s B’Nai B’rith Art competition. The competition acknowledges diversity in student art works across a range of mediums.
We are extremely proud of all the entries from our students and there were several award winners across all age ranges and categories. Most notably was Year 12 student Layla Light, whose work ‘Qualia’ which was awarded the 2020 Morrie Gold Memorial Prize (which includes $600), the top prize in the competition. The judges were impressed by the intricate use of media and process to create a stunning visual.
Other award winners are:
Kari Boymal, Year 11 – 3rd prize winner, mixed media
Jonah Epstein, Year 12 – 1st prize winner – digital media
Sebastian Vidal, Year 11 – 2nd prize winner – painting and drawing (for ages 16 – 18),
Lucinda Vidal, Year 8 – 2nd prize winner – painting and drawing (for ages 14 – 15).
The KDS Visual Arts department is proud of the efforts of all students who entered the competition and acknowledges the hard work that goes into the making of an art and media work. Special thanks goes to our Art teacher, Jackie Roberts, for her outstanding leadership with these students.
