First Nations’ art tour

This week our Year 6 students ventured to the city on a quest to find out more about Melbourne’s rich Indigenous culture and history.

At the NGV (National Gallery of Victoria) students were fascinated with the Bark Ladies exhibition which celebrated an extraordinary collection of work by Yolu women artists from the Buku-Larrgay Mulka Centre, in North-East Arnhem Land. They were completely immersed in the interactive activities and displays of First Nations’ culture, language and art.

Led by an experienced walking guide, our Year 6 students gained a deeper and more meaningful understanding of Birrarung Marr, an important gathering place for the Kulin Nation. Students marveled at the weapons and artifacts that were showcased and thoroughly enjoyed this learning experience.
