Our Snow Sports stars shine
The annual Interschools’ Snow Sports Competitions kicked off with an overnight snow dump that was substantial enough to cover the road all the way to the village. Some of us literally skied all the way to the village and chairlifts. The King David School put in a stirling performance given ‘white outs’ and visibility issues on both days of the competition. Monday saw eleven competitors from Year 1 (Division 6) to Year 9 (Division 2) and parents and teachers, challenge themselves on both the top of the Skyline run to the T-bar and the Rider’s Cross run to the T-bar. On Tuesday there were ‘white outs’ at Little Buller Spur which significantly reduced visibility for the same nine participants.
Mazal tov to Leo (Year 4), Sam (Year 8) and Sienna (Year 9) who came first place in two events each.
Thrills and spills included an equipment malfunction that derailed Nate Green’s (Division 4) second run on the Giant Slalom as his ski detached mid-race. Charlie Lindros (Division 3) caught up to the competitor in front of him and accidentally crossed the finish line instead of exiting the run. Eli Rogers and Lucas Zhang (Division 4) competed solidly and hope to earn a place next year. All competitors and families are to be thanked and congratulated because the group’s participation really helped the King David School’s final result. An especially generous thank you should go to John Lindros (KDS Parent), Ari Fisher (Auscamp organiser of the Maccabi Event) and to Daniel Sher who led the ABL Jewish interschools event. Russell Newman also deserves a hearty thank you for handling logistics for the KDS team in the lead up.
