Education expert Tom Sherrington is presenting to Magid Campus staff on WalkThrus.

Tom Sherrington inspires staff and parents with WalkThrus

We were delighted to welcome renowned UK-based educator Tom Sherrington to King David on Tuesday. Tom Sherrington is the creator of the ‘WalkThrus’ framework, which we have began implementing in Term 4 last year. WalkThrus are evidence-based strategies that help solve common problems teachers want to solve, such as ‘how can I ensure every student remains engaged for this explanation?’, ‘how can I be sure (right now) that every student has understood?’, ‘how do I get students to think deeply about this?’.

The WalkThrus program provides teachers with a toolkit to solve these using various 5-step strategies (these are the ‘WalkThrus’), as well as peer observation, discussion and coaching, and ongoing online resources. Please click here to find out more. Sherrington spent the day working with Learning Area Leaders, developing their coaching techniques, as well as observing teachers and offering feedback. Later he led an all-campus staff Professional Development, providing staff with further incredibly useful pedagogical techniques.

In the evening, Sherrington also led a Parent Education session (with some students in attendance too), guiding parents on how to help their children study effectively.

Thank you to Vice-Principal Teaching and Learning, Russell Kaplan and Magid Campus Curriculum Coordinator, Kathy Ross for organising this inspiring visit.
