Two Year 2 students sound the Shofar. They are holding a shofar in their mouths and blowing. They are preparing for Elul.

We like to hear the Shofar sound

Wow! It’s Elul already – and this week we marked Rosh Chodesh Elul together with our Junior School assembly. In the last month of the Jewish calendar, we hear the sound of the shofar each day, like an alarm clock waking each of us up to consider our actions of the past year and prepare for the new year.

The Year 2 students continue on the Junior School tradition and have taken on the responsibilities of ba’al tekiyah, sounding the shofar throughout the Junior School and ELC throughout the month of Elul.

Our students learnt how to sound the shofar with Ike, and learnt about the meaning and role of the shofar in our tradition with Tammy. The workshop, which took place during Book Week, was even more fun in our Book Week Costumes!
